You carefully climb down the walls of the trench. As you expected, the bottom of the trench is somewhat dark, and the air is still rather cold. The ground seems to be solid beneath your feet and it looks like it is made of the same material as the ground on the surface above you. As you look up, you notice a considerable amount of dust beginning to swirl above you. You move forward through the trench, finding that a large boulder blocks the direction by which you initially chose to travel. You decide it is probably safer to go in the other direction, than try to scale the walls of the trench to go over the boulder. Besides, it seems that a rather large dust storm is forming overhead, and you certainly don't want to get caught up in that. You
turn away from the boulder, eager to explore the trench in the other direction.
You think to yourself how much more of an adventure this is than traveling
through the Sahara on foot. While contemplating this, however, you notice
that it is becoming rather dark, as the dust storm above you is blocks
all of the sunlight coming into the trench. You pull out a flashlight
from your backpack and turn it on, creating an orange glow around you.
You continue forward, trying to avoid the occasional small rock that falls
into the trench due to the storm. Looking up, all you can see is a ceiling
of dust, flying at high speeds above your head. Entranced by the storm,
you suddenly trip over a small ditch in the ground and fall forward, your
hand accidentally flipping the switch to your flashlight as it rolls out
of your hand. |
