SMAC - Olin Student Martial Arts Club

SMAC is the Olin College Student Martial Arts Club. The only reason our name is so boring is so that we could have an acronym to go along with WHACK (the fencing club) -- although, with all deference to their coolness, our name pales in comparison.

To start with the official CORe stuff:
"The mission of SMAC is to emphasize and promote the artistic and mental aspects of the martial arts throughout the Olin community."

The club currently has blackbelt-level experience in taekwondo, shotokan karate, and tang soo do, with moderate judo experience as well. Regular weeknight practices are taekwodo/karate, but other styles will be taught on demand. (No, we don't just learn them like Neo, but we can bring in outside experts.) We have started fostering a relationship with Babson College's BMAC, which teaches a blend of taekwondo and karate, and our practices are open to each other.

In addition to practices, we will try to attend local tournaments, demonstrations, or other martial-arts-related events. On a smaller scale, we may be involved with events for the Olin Community such as a martial arts movie night or a short demonstration.

It should also be noted that right now, there are no belt promotions. This is because the current blackbelts are all only first degrees and don't necessarily feel comfortable testing people right now. As with everything at Olin, this is subject to change.
