Subject: [SMAC] First SMAC class and results of
the meeting on Saturday
Hey
everyone,
Our first practice
will be this Wednesday night (15th), from 9-10 PM at the South end of the 3rd
floor hallway in the Academic Center. Come dressed in comfortable clothes
that you can move around in (jeans aren't the best; i'd recommend sweat pants,
warm ups, shorts, etc.) and ready to learn some martial
arts!
There also may be a
free half-hour Kung Fu lesson earlier on Wednesday (8:30-9:00) that I would
totally recommend to everyone (keep in mind this might be pushed back a week
randomly if not many people can make it).
Results of the SMAC
meeting on Sunday:
We decided that
we're just going to start off with the basics for a couple weeks, then go into
more stuff, like forms, more advanced techniques, and sparring. Classes
are tentatively scheduled Monday from 8:00 - 9:00 PM and on Wednesday
from 9:00 - 10:00 PM. If there are major troubles with this,
shoot me or Cheryl and email.
There was a decent
amount of interest in sparring, which is fantastic, and we can have a few
special sparring classes.
Those of you
interested in the Kung Fu passionate pursuit, we might dedicate one class every
once in a while to a show-and-tell deal where you can practice what you've
learned and share with others.
Events for the
year: it is SMAC tradition to do a demo at each Expresso (there will be
two this year, one per semester), and we might do something for the Babson
College multicultural fair thing (that's next semester though). I'd like
to have a movie night or two, and maybe a tournament trip to watch/compete,
whatever floats your boat.
Styles that various
people in SMAC know include but are not limited to: Tang Soo Do (George),
Kung Fu (Liana), Taekwondo (Dean and Ryan), Judo (Cheryl), Karate (Dean and
Cheryl), Kendo (Vito--I think), Self Defense/MMA (Dean (and Cheryl?)).
Please let me know if I missed anyone.
Equipment: the
club has a large kicking shield and two small double-clappers (usually
associated with Taekwondo). We have four chest protectors for sparring, i
have an extra set of sparring gear for medium-sized people, Cheryl might have
some equipment stashed away somewhere, some weapons are on the way, and the SMAC
library is currently being assembled. I'll let you guys know what's in it
as soon as all my stuff gets here =)
If there's anything
I missed, or something that hasn't been asked, or just want to tell us something
(like how awesome we are!) drop Cheryl or Me an email.
Looking forward to
our first practice of the year!
Dean and
Cheryl
