Please note Family Weekend has been changed to October 26-28 to coincide with our 10-year anniversary celebration. A schedule from last year's event follows, some times and activities will change, but the basic timeframes will remain the same.

FRIDAY
4:00 – 6:30 p.m. ~ Registration  
Milas Hall Lobby

Fall onto campus for Family Weekend 2011! Visit the Milas Hall lobby to pick up your registration packet, which includes area maps and attractions, a schedule of events and other helpful information. All of your weekend questions can be answered at the registration desk. There is no registration fee. Olin Gear will be sold during this time.

Witness first-hand what life is like inside and out of the classroom and beyond campus as our Olin students showcase their creativity, intelligence, teamwork and dedication through presentations and informal performances.

The story: On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit? 

Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for non-student adults and can be purchased beforehand (please email thomas.pandolfo@students.olin.edu) or at the door. Warning: this show contains language that may be inappropriate for younger viewers.  
  

10:15 – 10:45 p.m. ~ Illumination Innovation: A Fire Art Performance   
Great Lawn

Back by popular demand....Witness this unique display of student talent and passion for fire performance by the Olin Fire Arts club. Using different tools and alternating movements, these artists will take turns twirling and spinning fire to create beautiful red and orange patterns for your entertainment. This spectacle is guaranteed to light your fire! (Safety is a critical part of fire performances. Olin students actively practice fire safety during every performance.)

Follow your nose with the smell of a home-style breakfast buffet! Join Director of Dining Services, Dave Nadreau and his team as they serve-up their Saturday breakfast buffet. (Cost: $6/person) Please note: Lunch and dinner for Saturday are on your own. You are welcome to enjoy lunch (Cost: $8.15) and dinner (Cost: $10.25) in the Dining Hall.

8:30 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.~ 9th Annual Cruickshank Race for Shelter - 5K Run and Walk    Webster Parking Lot, Babson College
Hosted by Babson's Bernon Center for Public Service, the Cruickshank Race is a 5K run/walk that brings together students, families, alumni, faculty, staff and the community to raise funds for the Babson chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the Bernon Center’s volunteer initiatives.

Online Registration will end at 4:30PM on Friday, October 14th. Day-of Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. with the Race kicking off at 10 a.m. Both runners and walkers are welcome. This is a family event; runners and walkers of all age and experience levels are encouraged to participate. All entrants are invited to enjoy post-race refreshments and awards ceremony. Interested in being a part of the PAB or want to volunteer on a committee? Learn how you can help with new student recruitment, campus events, parent communication, networking and more. If you haven’t yet met Sally Phelps, Director of Post Graduate Planning (PGP), you should! She will answer questions relating to internships – when to start thinking about and pursuing them; what job and research opportunities are available now and after Olin; when to start applications for graduate school and much more. Sally will share some details about Olin’s five classes of alumni and what they’re up to now, while current students will be on hand to talk about their summer experiences.

11:20 a.m.  & 12:40 p.m. ~ Men's Soccer Games (Rec. & Div 1 teams)

Experiencing some World Cup withdrawal!? Well come on down to cheer on one of Olin’s soccer teams. The men’s game has two 35 minute halves (approx 80 minutes total including half-time). An RSVP for this event is not required. Face-paint and super fans are welcome!

Take advantage of this great opportunity to explore the area on your own. A helpful guide complete with area museums, shops, restaurants and other "hot spots" is available. 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. ~ Pumpkins Painting Service Project                                          
Oval (rain location: AC?)
Participate in a pumpkin painting party with SERV, Olin’s community service organization. Your masterpieces will be donated to North Hill Retirement Community.

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. ~ Parent Technology Session   
Olin Computer Lab (lower level of Milas Hall, down the hall from IT suite and bottom entrance of Auditorium)
Take part in this informative tutorial on the Parent Portal as part of PhoenixNet, a portal for the Olin Community. Join CIO Joanne Kossuth as she teaches you how to navigate through the resources, tools, and features of this newly released online-community for Olin Parents. This is one class you won’t want to cut, from FAQs and online chats to travel tips and links to the webcam, photos and more.

6:00 – 8:00 p.m. ~ Family Dinner On Your Own
A reminder: Lunch and dinner for Saturday are on your own. You are welcome to enjoy lunch (Cost: $8.15) and dinner (Cost: $10.25) in the Dining Hall. Many students or families take this opportunity to make reservations at local restaurants. 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. ~ At a Glance: The SCOPE of It All                    
Olin Auditorium

The Olin curriculum culminates in the Senior Capstone Program for Engineering (SCOPE) in which students engage in significant engineering projects under realistic constraints for an actual client. In this session, SCOPE's Director, Dr. Andrew Bennett will discuss the vision, goals and structure of the program. A summary of the value added from last year's projects as well as highlights of this year's projects will also be presented by students.

12:00 p.m. ~ Family Weekend ends

If you'd like to enjoy a meal before you depart, the Dining Hall will be open for lunch (Cost: $8.15).
